Munoz Finishes Runner-Up at U.S. Women's Amateur

Aug. 13, 2008

Arizona State senior-to-be Azahara Munoz finished runner-up at the U.S. Women's Amateur held at the 6,516 yard par 72 Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. The 2008 NCAA Champ fell 2 and 1 to three time NCAA Player of the Year Amanda Blumenherst.

Munoz had a 1-up lead after the morning round. She got off two a quick start in the afternoon round, taking advantage of Blumenherst's boogie on the first hole. Munoz held her lead until Blumenherst birdied on the tenth hole. Munoz and Blumenherst remained tied until Blumenherst won hole 13.

Munoz and the Sun Devils kick off their 2008-09 campaign at the NCAA Fall Preview held at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owing Mills, Md. The tournament begins Sept. 7 and concludes Sept. 8.
