2008 NCAA Champion Munoz Qualifies for Final of U.S. Women's Amateur

Arizona State senior and 2008 NCAA Champion Azahara Munoz qualified for the final of the U.S. Women's Amateur held at the he 6,516 yard par 72 Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. Munoz looks to make history as only the second amateur to win both the NCAA and Women's Amateur title in the same year.

Munoz defeated her fellow Spaniard, close friend and Pac-10 rival Belen Mozo in the semi-final to move on to the championship round. Munoz won the first two holes and never looked back as she defeated Mozo 4-and-3 to move onto the championship round. She will compete against three-time NCAA Player of the Year Amanda Blumenherst in the final.

The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship will continue through August 10. Past Sun Devil U.S. Amateur champions include Amy Fruhwirth (1991), Joanne Gunderson-Carner (1957, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1968), Grace Park (1998), Pearl Sinn (1988) and Wendy Ward (1994).
